Let's figure out which one is you

Takes about thirty seconds, and there's no paperwork involved, just one simple question.

The one question that decides it

Do you have a GST number, also called a GSTIN? That's really the only thing you need to know.

Yes, I have one

You're a GST Invoice user.

No, or not sure

You're a Cash Bill user, at least for now.

What's a GSTIN, in plain words?

A GSTIN is a registration number the government gives to businesses that are allowed to charge a tax called GST to their customers. It's a bit like a licence plate for tax purposes, not every vehicle on the road has one, and that's completely normal.

Most small shops, gig workers, fisherfolk, masons, and anyone billing for the first time don't have a GSTIN yet. If that's you, you're in good company, and you don't need one to start billing properly today.

GST Invoice

If you have a GSTIN, this one's for you. A GST Invoice is a proper tax invoice, it shows the tax you're charging and follows the government's rules for what needs to be on it, exactly what your GST-registered customers will expect from you.

Cash Bill

If you don't have a GSTIN, this one's for you. A Cash Bill is a simple, clean receipt: what was sold, for how much, no tax added. It's completely legitimate and professional, nothing lesser about it. Charging GST without a GSTIN isn't allowed, so we built Cash Bill to make sure you never have to worry about that.

Can I switch, or use both?

Yes, any time you like. Pick whichever one fits each sale, one customer might need a GST Invoice, the next might just need a Cash Bill. Nothing you choose today locks you in, and nothing stops you from using the other one tomorrow.

This page explains the general idea, not specific legal advice. Rules about who needs to register for GST can change over time, and your own situation matters more than any general page can capture. If you're genuinely unsure whether you should register for GST, a chartered accountant can tell you for certain, we can only point you in the right direction.
